Issues

Safety

Many people talk about improving safety for students and teachers, but I am the only candidate that has over 30 years of Public Safety experience. I will use that experience to help develop safety plans and procedures that address the “Real World” threats faced by our kids and school staff every day.

Literacy

Teaching kids to read should be fundamental, but with almost 1 in 4 students having dyslexia, traditional reading instruction does not work, and this is evident by test scores within the Saugus Union School District. I will push for science based reading programs which benefit ALL students.

Non-Profit Foundation

As someone who has established two non-profit organizations, it is my goal to establish a foundation for Saugus Union School District, much like the “WISH” foundation enjoyed by our neighboring High School District. In these fiscal challenging times, we need to be more proactive and creative in how we fund education for our kids, as we cannot rely on Sacramento alone.

All-Inclusive Governing

Public Education has many stakeholders and when making critical decisions, it is important that all of their views are taken into consideration. This being said, all decisions begin and end with our children’s safety and development. Part of being inclusive is ensuring that parents, teachers, administrators, staff, and taxpayers know that their thoughts and concerns are included in the decision making model.

Letting Kids be Kids

Look at any school campus during lunch and you will see most of that time is spent at a lunch table, even well after the kids have finished eating. No longer do you see kids on swings, playing basketball, baseball, or any number of other sports that we did at school when we were kids, and this needs to change. I have heard many different reasons as to why this is, all of which make absolutely no sense. I will work for letting kids be kids and making school not only a quality learning environment but a FUN place to be inside and outside of the classroom.
